American idol news : Tattoo singer -Jordin Conquer UK?

Jordin won American Idol - the US version of Simon Cowell's show - in May 2007 at just 17 years old. Since then her career in America has rocketed. Now, she needs to break the UK.

"It's going pretty well I think." she told Sky News. "We've been having a really good time here. Things have been busy. My schedule's been packed, but I've gotten a really good response so far. It's been good."

Her first hit, 'Tattoo' was only released as a download over here. It made it to number 50 in the UK charts in April.

For that song at least, she had the right song-writers for UK success. Tattoo was co-written by the talent behind James Blunt's hit, 'You're Beautiful'.

But this isn't America.

"I don't know what to do," she said.

"I don't even know how to break the United States. I just sang a song and put it out there.

"It was the fans and the people who helped me achieve the status I have now. They're the ones who request it on the radio."

Her new single 'No Air' has just been released in the UK. It's a duet with R&B singer Chris Brown.

"I love to sing songs that touch people and when they come up to me and tell me that it's helped them with something, I'm good. That's why I do it," she explained.

Jordin may not have been over here much before, but she had a taste of the UK in the form of Simon Cowell.

"Considering what he has said to other contestants on the show, he was very nice to me," she said.

But Cowell was less than impressed with her audition for the American show, telling her: "Sometimes I like to put one sugar in my coffee to make it slightly sweeter. That [performance] was the equivalent of putting eleven spoonfuls in. It was all a bit too 'cutesy' and sweet."

She had a message for him though: "I like eleven spoonfuls of sugar in my coffee!" she told me. "I like it sweet!"

So there, Cowell.

It seems she knows a bit about us Brits too. We quizzed her.

Did she know what Marmite was? Yes - like vegemite. And she hates it! Does she know our favourite take-away? Curry.

And does she know what the Queen's favourite dog is? The little white one that looks like a foot stool.
